Garage door cables are out of balance?

the garage door was sticking and I was afraid the motor would burn out. put the door on 'manual' and saw that one side was slightly higher than the other. tried to 'drop' the high side by loosening the set screws on the cable spindle and really screwed things up. now the door is way out of whack. need advice on which strings to pull to get it back in balance.
