Braze on front derailleur won't pass my outer chainring.?

I have it as high as it goes on the braze on the frame. It hits the back of the outer ring. Are there different size braze on derailleurs? I'm using an old Shimano 600 and a 2 ring 52 t outer ring newer shimano crankset. Do I need a different size bottom bracket spindle, A different size braze on front derailleur if they even make those, or a different crankset/size outer ring?
